Well it was an eventful weekend..........

....but not in a good way. There was a whole lot of this. Via.

Sorry guys. There won't be any fabulousness posted this go around. This is a purely selfish post.

Friday evening, Mr. B and I were relaxing on the couch, when we heard a loud noise come from right outside our window. I looked outside to see the tractor part of an 18 wheeler up in my front lawn and my mailbox reduced to a pile of demolished bricks.

Also, right before that, I found out from the seller of the swallow brooch that I had just blogged about, that she could no longer find the brooch and was refunding me my money. Never mind the fact that she had just listed it like less than 2 weeks ago. She was nice enough to offer to go ahead and send it if she found it. But seriously, I had been looking for the perfect swallow brooch FOR OVER A YEAR! This was THE ONE! I think I'm going to quit blogging about things before I receive them, it's bad luck.

Remember the gold suede gloves? Yeah the seller of those conveniently left out of the listing there was a huge tear right on the palm of the left glove. I got my money back but all of the heartache could of been avoided if she were just honest.

Remember the silk Dallas scarf? Somewhat trivial, but there was a spot of white wall paint on the corner of it. By that point I was so tired of emailing sellers and bitching about the condition I had received something in that I just let it go.

Also, I kid you not, but the last four, yes FOUR vintage cardigans I have purchased from Etsy have had something wrong with them that the seller didn't mention. Either, a stain, a hole, a stain and a hole. Sellers are all too quick to slap the "IN PERFECT CONDITION" label on something so it will sell better. They don't stop to think about what's going to happen when the buyer receives the item and now feels as though she's been lied to.

I did make a fun purchase over the weekend to soothe my heartache from the demolished mailbox and having the swallow pin snatched from my grips but I'll blog about it AFTER I receive it. Although whenever it arrives, there won't be anymore traipsing out to my own little box to retrieve it. I'll have to get my fat ass in the car and drive ALL THE WAY TO THE POST OFFICE!

To top everything off, my special visitor of the month had just arrived. So YOU KNOW I was in the perfect mood for all of this! In 3 days, I've devoured 2 bags of Weight Watchers mint patties and I'm thinking of getting more.

  1. Oh damn, lol, I feel your pain!

My first "big" lamp purchase on eBay was a disaster. The seller "forgot" to mention the lampshade had a fresh burn on it from the bulb they put in it to take photos with.

And why was there a bulb burn on the lamp shade? Because the seller "forgot" to mention that the two light sockets didn't have their little screws, so rather than sit up straight, they flopped down, hanging by their wires.

Nice job, seller, for selling me a $79 + $35 s/h lamp that now has string tied around the sockets to get the bulbs to stay upright.

Of course I wasn't gong to return it. Spend $35 + $35 to return, $70, for nothing but a sellers lies? I hate it every time I look at it.

And the seller who sold me a fantastic triple-tiered large fiberglass lampshade in just the right color I had been looking for, for months...

I paid instantly, as I always do.

I wait and watch the mail and wait... And wait... Three weeks later I email: "Hi, where is my lampshade?"

He replies: "Oh I didn't send it, you'll have to send another $15 for s/h if you want it."

    Ugh!!!!!

And the green wall pocket that turned out to be an ugly shade of yellow.

And the several "hand thrown pottery pots" that turned out to be mass-manufactured porcelain-like crap.

Whew, thanks for letting me share that, I feel better.

    Hope you do too! =)

  2. Oh wow! How awful! All of this really is enough to scare you away from buying vintage online forever! There's so many pieces that I wouldn't have exposure to if it weren't for the internet, but sometimes I'm just like, is it really worth the headache? Thanks for the consolation. Misery loves company after all!

  4. Haha Thanks Christa! It would have been perfect if he had of just showed up out of no where and started playing his violin as I looked upon the rubble that was my mailbox!

  5. I am sorry for your bad weekend. My little visitor came too, and I have been in a foul mood. It is a good thing I am giving tests today to my students instead of lecturing. I would probably be screaming instead.

  7. Fortunately I've always had good luck buying on the internet--that being said, some of that good luck was just getting a seller who did their best to make things right when the item was received broken. Even the most perfectly wrapped Fostoria American tri-corner candy dish didn't make it, since when it was wrapped (I'm talking yards and yards of bubble wrap) the seller neglected to put a piece of bubble wrap between the lid and the bottom. Hence, two chips. She refunded me half the purchase price, though. I hate that you received all those sweaters with boo-boos and really hate that the sellers had to lie to get them sold.

  9. Haha yes I do believe I am. And what will make it even better is if my husband is successful in his witch hunt for Diet Big Red and sugar free pumpkin Peeps. Did I mention I was slightly spoiled?

  12. Man, I get so worried that some of my vintage items are going to have imperfections I don't notice, and that is why I freak out about listing everything that is wrong with them. I feel your pain, though.

  13. Oh no, what bad luck youve had. So sorry about the brooch too, hopefully it will turn up and she can send it to you!
I received a vintage dress today and the lace collar is all yellow (instead of white) - seller conveniently forgot to write this in her listing! and asked me to mail it back for a refund ha not happy (I would have to pay postage!). I guess buying on line, these are things we have to put up with, although it is quite unfair that sellers arent always honest, and for them its not really worth it when they have to refund us the cost back.
Well I hope your most recent purchase arrives in good condition :)

  15. Oh Rose, I'm so sorry to hear about the collar on your dress! And doesn't it just further the disappointment when they say they want you to ship it back instead of offering to give you a discount or a refund? It's like now you've been left with absolutely nothing for all of your trouble!

  16. Haha I like how you said your special visitor. Aww I'm sorry about all your troubles, but at least you have nowhere to go but up from here!
