Every Christmas, if I'm home for Christmas, I like to make something new to decorate with. I'm somewhat picky when it comes to decorations and I'm often bored with what is offered in stores so I just make what I want myself and what I've been inspired by from reading all of the wonderful blogs!
So this year for my wreath, I was very inspired by this one that was featured on Design Sponge. I'll of course be making mine in the shape of a capital B. I've already made the grape vine base for it and now I'm just waiting for the greenery I want to go on sale enough. Isn't this one that she made just the cutest thing?! I'll be sure and post pictures of mine when I'm done.
Also, I've been wanting a cute, bunting or garland to drape from my mantel but just haven't seen any cute ones in the stores. So I came across this tutorial for a holly berry garland that was posted last year on Etsy and I think it's just so wonderful! I got the color felt I wanted for the leaves from Etsy seller Felt-O-Rama and just got packaged pompoms from Hobby Lobby for the berries instead of making handmade berries out of felt roving which would take A LOT of time. I'm also going to be getting either rick rack or velvet ribbon in the same shade as the felt leaves to hang the holly clusters from. I'll be sure and post pics of this when I'm done as well.
So what are your Christmas design/craft plans this year? Any blog posts that you've come across that you've been inspired by?

Hmm. I just can't wait to get decorating, period. I am SURE I have to work a ton on Black Friday, so I will have to do it sometime after Thanksgiving. I want to use a lot more crafty ideas, though, since I don't have a lot of money this year.
ReplyDeleteI've recently become a glitter addict thanks to Martha Stewart. She was showing how to glitter your own designs on holiday cards, and I started a few over the weekend. A little time consuming but fun.
ReplyDeleteI also love Martha.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure what crafts I am going to do this year, but if I have time, I was thinking of making 8 drawstring bags and hanging them on a clothesline with clothes pins. In each bag would be two little toys, say cars or starwars characters for my little boys. The 8 bags are one for each day of Hanukkah. Wouldn't that be cute!
BTW, I noticed your art posts. You should check out SBritt.com. He is amazing. I did a post about him here:

Thank god for Hobby Lobby! I'm still working on Thanksgiving cards, though (which WILL get finished today) and I think I'm going to try my hand at one of those initial wreaths--very cool.
ReplyDeleteLike you I like a bit of class in my decorations, and this isn't always available in the stores...I particularly like the wreath you featured...Thank you too for your kind thoughts dear girl...they're very much appreciated.
ReplyDeletewhat a neat way to re-imagine the traditional wreath!
ReplyDeleteI love that you're getting into the swing of Christmas decorations. Especially making your own.
ReplyDeleteIt's very likely I'll make some felt ornaments for friends and coworkers like I did for the members of my book club last year. I'm also working on some other little things -- flowered headbands for the little girls of my friends -- as well.
ReplyDeleteIts paper chains all the way for me this year! I think your blog is wonderful and have an award waiting for you at mine x www.jennyjenny-yesterdaygirl.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI'm not fond of decorations from the stores either, they have no character. Love the tutorial, may try it myself :)
