Almost to 100.......

Well as of this post, I'm at 92 followers, 8 more and we can have our giveaway! Yay!!!!

I'll give you a hint as to the prize, the scent is bewitching!

Speaking of scents, I got my package yesterday from Wylde Ivy! Double yay!!!

Here are the scents that I ordered to try, as well as a couple of extras that the seller was so nice to send.

I ordered:

Black Cat
Black Patch
Black Tobacco, see a theme here LOL
Chocolate Rose Creme
Ember
He Loves Me Not
Little Shop in Salem
Queen Bee
Starling
Wood Nymph

The two extras are:

Deja Vu
Frosted Lavender

If any of you have ordered from BPAL or Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab before, the Wylde Ivy samples come in the same fashion as BPAL's Imp's Ears do, with a little sticker flap label wrapped around the sample tube.

Here are the scents I've tried so far and my opinion/review of them. Keep in mind that every scent works differently for different people based on their body chemistry so this is just how they worked for me.
He Loves Me Not is listed as including Vanilla, Jasmine, Orchid, Dry Wood, and Black Musk. I only smell vanilla but it's a very strong vanilla which means it probably is brought out more by the musk. If any of you have ever smelled the drugstore perfume Vanilla Fields, that's what this reminds me of. I'm not picking up on either the jasmine or the orchid.

The second one I've tried is Little Shop in Salem. This is described by Wylde Ivy as having Incense and Patchouli and that's basically all this is. If you've ever walked into what I know as being called a head shop, or a hippie shop, were they sell incense and little Buddha statues and smoking implements for smoking illegal substances then that's exactly what this smells like.

The third one I've tried and that I'm wearing right now is called Queen Bee. The is described as having Wildflower Honey, Cream and Buttery Milk notes and Chamomile Petals. I would say that I smell all three equally and it comes off as having a slight baby powder quality. It's a very sweet smell. The milk notes are not overt but I think they warm everything up.

Temperley London Circus Zoetrope

Temperley London Circus Zoetrope from LEGS on Vimeo.

"We created a 12-foot-tall zoetrope to showcase Temperley London’s Spring 2010 collection. It was unveiled at New York Fashion Week and is now in London for London Fashion week."

More info on its creation is here glossyinc.com/legszoetrope.html

Is this not the most fabulous fashion promo ever?! It's so historical and wonderful and has a slight tinge of eeriness that makes it so perfect!

And so another week begins with total randomness

I apologize in advance for this post being all over the place. This is pretty much just a summary of everything interesting I came across this weekend as well as a couple of things I had forgotten to post about along the way.

I hope all of you had wonderful weekends! Mine was spent not doing very much. Saturday night Mr. B and I did some running around town and stopped off at Target before heading to a friend's house. As we passed by the jewelry counter, I noticed all of these really cute pieces that I hadn't seen before. When I spotted this ring, designed by Anna Sheffield for Target, I knew I had to have it. I love cuckoo clocks even though I don't have an actual one yet. So I thought that a little one for my hand would be a good start. They only come in a size 7 which is a little big even for my middle finger, but it's so cute, I'll make it work. It's very detailed! A little steep at $30 for something from Target but it is sterling.

I suppose I was channeling my German heritage because also while at Target, I picked up a bottle of Relax Riesling wine for going over to our friend's house to chill by their pool. I actually prefer Vinho Verde, but Riesling is a close second.

Have any of you see this movie? If not, you really should. The whole movie is on Youtube in 10 parts so you really have no excuse for not watching it other than maybe having a slow internet connection. This is just a clip of the movie as the videos that show the whole movie have had the embedding disabled, but just do a search for "If It's Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium" and you'll find it. Young Ian McShane is oh so dreamy! It's actually a really funny movie as well and one that I definitely need to get on DVD.

I also came across this darling clip when looking at Blue Bell Knoll. If you haven't checked out this blog by now you should, it really is the most wonderful blog. Anyway, when I came across this clip, I squealed with delight! I remember being a toddler and watching this on Sesame Street and being completely fascinated/at peace while watching this. I just know that this clip helped along with all would be Anthropologie lovers. It just has that feel, in my opinion.

Whew, well I think I've done enough rambling for now. I hope everyone has a glorious Monday!!

Lust worthy finds

Sorry about not updating on Friday. I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend so far. Not too much going on in my neck of the woods. There is a super discounted section out in back of this local Goodwill store that is only open certain days and certain hours that I wanted to go to today, but that didn't happen. Oh well, maybe next Saturday. Although, next weekend is First Monday Trade Days in Canton, so I might be going there instead. I haven't been in SO long, it has really changed over the years, in some ways for the better and in some for the worse.

In other news, here's a couple of lovely things I've collected over the past few days. I've been wanting an uber feminine trench coat for not much money and I think this might be the one. Check out the adorable bow in the back! This is available at Nordstrom for $128.
Also I really like these Betsey Johnson slingbacks from Overstock. Not great for fall or winter but we always need to think ahead right? Also, the price is pretty nice too. These are available from Overstock for $74. I'm considering getting these but worried about that little elastic bit, see it right below the stitched part on the slingback. Elastic components tend to wear out rather quickly on shoes and getting them replaced can turn into a nightmare. At the same time, how often would I wear these? Probably not too often. You see how I talk myself into things?

Thrifty finds that make your day better

I had a bit of luck yesterday at the Salvation Army. After having lunch with a lovely friend, I remembered that on Wednesdays, all of the clothing at the SA is 50% off. So I went over there hoping to find something to add to the ever growing collection of things that I have yet to list in my Etsy shop. I did find something for it, but I found a couple of keepsies as well. It's so hard being a vintage seller when you're a lover of vintage as well.

Sorry for the tacky 80s wallpaper I've yet to replace. My bathroom has a huge skylight and in this weather I need all the natural light I can get!

I came across the gorgeous 60's dress in perfect condition and while the coloring makes me look like I want to puke and is slightly snug for for me, I knew it would be perfect for my mom who is a smaller size and darker complected. Put this with a little cream cardigan and some nude sandals and it would be perfect. I was considering putting it in the shop but I think it needs some love and admiration from us for a little while.

The second thing I found was this really great corduroy jacket for Mr. B. He's been looking for one for a while and this fits him perfectly. Check out that chartreuse satin lining! Very J Crew, no? However it's from the 70s and Sears, they were clearly ahead of their time! Perfect for fall!

I also got this really cute nightie set that has darling Mandarin detailing at the neck and on the sleeves. This will be going into the shop. I considered keeping it for myself as it's such a unique print and in perfect condition and it fits, but someone else should have a chance to love it.

Lastly, I found this super cute aqua and gold 50s planter! It's going to replace a pink vintage planter that I gave my mom for her new pink and black room. There aren't any markings on it, but I know I've seen similar pieces before. Do any of you have any clue to the maker of this?

So all in all, Wednesday was a very nice day despite the dreary rain which has continued today :(

Secrets in Lace Bettie Boudoir

I really want this whole set but all 4 pieces would be over $200! Oy vey. Does anyone want to contribute to my lingerie fund?

Designer Favorites Spring 2010: Gary Graham

While I was pretty much disappointed in what New York had to offer as far as the Spring 2010 RTW shows, I did notice the designs from Gary Graham and how truly lovely and unique they are. I don't recall coming across any blogs that featured his designs, so I thought I would bring them to your attention.

The overall feel is very soft, worn, reused and re-purposed. However, not reused in the sense of the ugly bag lady look like we've seen quite a bit of. Here, the re-purposing is exact and comes across as creating a truly new look but yet it seems really familiar and comforting. A lot of the pieces have obvious vintage inspired cuts and details ranging from the period of WW1 to the 80's.

The colors used are very simple and soothing, very palate cleansing. However, all of the layers and different textures keep the pieces from being boring. Images via Style.com

A boring weekend, a new vintage find, and thoughts of a giveaway

This weekend didn't have much excitement involved. Saturday was completely lazy and Sunday involved helping my parents choose new furniture from Ikea for their new house. I did see these really cute vintage inspired aqua drinking glasses, so I might be going back for some of those. At $5.99 for a set of 6, can I really say no?!

I should probably let you know that I'm often a victim of my own posts and there was an instance of this last week. Remember the post on vintage tourist finds from Ebay? Not too many of you commented on that. Well in my search for vintage pieces for it, I stumbled across this vintage scarf with a Dallas theme. The seller thinks it's from the 40's but I'm not sure. What really sold me on it is the dress form it features. Dallas has had a long time connection to the fashion industry which is something a lot of people outside of Texas don't know. Because I love fashion, and have grown up visiting Dallas on a regular basis, I had to have it.

Also, upon visiting the lovely Blue Bell Knoll blog, I found out about Wylde Ivy perfumes on Etsy. She has a wonderful assortment of quite unique fragrances so I thought I would give a few of them a try. I ordered the assortment of 10 vials and you can choose from all of her fragrances as to which 10 you would like to sample. I'll have a review on this soon.

Also, I was thinking possibly of doing a giveaway. My followers are quickly building and I thought that once they reach 100, I would hold some sort of giveaway in celebration. So in order to make the giveaway happen sooner, please let anyone, who you think would enjoy my blog, know about it and tell them to subscribe!

I hope everyone had a great weekend and I hope your week is off to a great start!!!

J Crew Endorsed Essie Nail Polish Colors

Eternal Optimist

I'm kind of behind on this as I'm sure most of you have seen this floating around on the web somewhere. I got a J Crew catalog today and noticed that they're endorsing certain colors of Essie nail polish. I completely missed this the first go around this past February when they first endorsed the shade Mini Shorts.

What do you think about this? I think with Mini Shorts they didn't actually offer it for sale through their catalog, but with their new picks for fall, Eternal Optimist and One of a Kind, they are offering them for sale through their company.

I think it's certainly a really interesting marketing move, and it kind of goes with the whole spread the love thing going on between some companies at the moment. I for one have always been a big fan of Essie nail polishes and have had a lot better luck with their formulas than from some more popular brands such as China Glaze and OPI.

I might take a look at Eternal Optimist next time I'm at Ulta, it's a really pretty pale shade which I've been attracted to lately. I wonder what the opacity is like though? So many of the pale shades often have issues with opacity and you end up having to apply like 4 coats to even get close to bottle color.

Vintage Inspired Finds: Oyukka Silk Dresses

I came across this gorgeous dress captured by the lovely Kam of Needle + Thread and I thought that the company's offerings would make a great vintage inspired post. The dress is from a brand called Oyukka. The pictures on the website obviously don't do near the justice that this one does! This dress is also available in pink/white stripe, blue/white stripe, and a purple plaid, all out of a lovely silk dupioni! They have a couple of other dress styles as well as some skirts and blouses.

Vintage Inspired Finds: J. Peterman Catalog

Found via Debutante Clothing. The J Peterman company, yes from Seinfeld, is still going strong and take a look at their latest offerings! I seriously haven't looked at a J.Peterman catalog since the 90's but wow, I'm really loving their stuff now! Click on the images to go to the item pages.

Ebay Finds: Vintage Tourist Souvenirs

Back in the day, when everyone was so stylish, taste and style exuded in areas that we no longer see it today such as tourist souvenirs. Depending on the state you went to in the US or even in other countries, you could get lovely pieces of jewelry, usually brooches, and silk scarves to commemorate your visit.

I love finding these old pieces and thinking about the person who bought them, where exactly she was when she bought them, why she decided to visit there, how her trip went etc.

I've been thinking of trying to find some sort of vintage piece to commemorate the places that I have been myself. I found some really lovely pieces on Ebay.

I think I must have........

died and gone to shoe heaven! Thank you so much Mr. Zac Posen for not drowning us with gladiators and booties and presenting us with ever so lovely and feminine shoes that make the female foot look like a work of art. I am forever grateful to you. Via the Imelda blog, or that's what I call it anyway.

Another lazy day and some more designer favorites

The weekend was as follows:

1. Watched the never ending rain come down, so dreary, but we needed it SO badly, so I'm thankful for it.

2. My parents are in the process of buying a new house and want to do some painting before they move in so I was helping my mom choose colors over the phone with the aid of the Sherwin Williams website. That was a new experience! I mailed her the final choices today.

3. I made an Etsy sale! A lovely ivory crocheted wrap that will be used in a wedding. I was so flattered!

4. I did some major blog networking and searching and found some really lovely new vintage blogs. So hello to all my new vintage blogger friends!

5. Shelled out $500 for a new set of tires. Booooo!

6. Found these lovely black grapes that are huge. Each of them are about the size of half a plum! Very sweet.

On to more fashionable things, overall I'm quite disappointed in what's available for Spring. Most of the casual pieces are so raggedy looking. The only thing I'm loving is the formal wear and you can't wear that to go shopping at the grocery, or can you?

Here are some of the formal pieces by Venexiana and they all scream Barbie dream dress!
